Thoughts on Self Promotion

When it comes to freelancing or being an entrepreneur, whether you're an artist or selling vacuum's, I have found that not many people are going to promote you better than you.

And if you're like me, this can be difficult.

Being no stranger to the task of self-promotion, I decided to quit pulling my hair out and outline some guidelines.

3 ways to self promote:

1.  Be Subtle.
No one likes an overbearing goodwill sucking in your face louder than life agenda driven loud mouth.  Stay Classy.

2. Creatively.
Author, Robert Fulghum, wrote a book called "Words I Wish I Wrote".  The book is filled with endless snippets that have influenced Mr. Fulghum's life.  At the very end of the book, the 2nd to last quote is from some crazily named guy I had never heard of, something like, James Harrow Xenopalophanourumeneal, or something.  In the footnote at the bottom of the page he explains that the person he is quoting is a fictional character from a novel he is currently writing.  Genius.

3. Don't.
Don't promote yourself, promote the value of what you believe in.  We provide services, sell things, create things, and invent things- for each other.  To make the world better.  To serve one another.  Focus on others, put their interests first, and always remember why you started in the first place.  It's not about you or me.  It's always about something more.

Your 2 Cents:
How do you handle Self Promotion?
